Isis

Egyptian Goddess of Magic and Giver of Life

Since all our cats have Egyptian inspired pet names we had to find something special for our new girl, something that marked her out as the start of our breed line too, so she was named Isis.

The Egyptian goddess Isis, symbolises rebirth and remains one of the most familiar images of empowered but utter femininity. The goddess Isis was the first daughter of Geb, god of the Earth, and Nut, the goddess of the Overarching Sky. Isis was born on the first day between the first years of creation, and was adored by her human followers.  So appropriate for our girl as she was born just prior to the start of the New Year and is utterly adored by us here!

Unlike the other Egyptian goddesses, the goddess Isis spent time among her people. So apt for an Abyssinian as they are very people oriented cats.

The tyet is an ancient Egyptian symbol of the goddess Isis although its exact origin is unknown. In look and meaning the tyet resembles an ankh, except that its arms curve down. It is often translated to mean welfare or life - so key to our choice of Isis as our foundation queen. It seems to be called "the Knot of Isis" because it resembles a knot used to secure the garments that the Egyptian gods wore.
