Who Are Lovelynx Abyssinians?

GCCF Registered Breeders of Abyssinian Cats

All our cats are PK Def. normal and we only breed with Studs who are tested PK Def. normal - this means that all of our kittens are also PK Def. normal.  It is our hope that with good breeding the PK Def. gene can be eradicated from the breeding pool!

Mikkar Ladylynx

The Lovelynx prefix (cattery name) is quite new, but our first breeding queen Ch. Mikkar Ladylynx, has an impeccable pedigree. She is the Granddaughter of the only Abyssinian to win the Supreme and become UK Supreme Gr. Ch. Mikkar Giddy Kipper, as well as being offspring of Gr Ch Myleenus Lordofthelynx (Lynx) out of Gr Ch Mikkar Blue Candytuft (Candy).  All of these cats having not only excellent Show and Breeding records, but also possess great temperaments besides.  Thanks again to Mike and Karen Shammas of Ch. Mikkar Abyssinians for letting us have Ladylynx (Isis), she’s just the best!

In addition to our lovely Isis, we are thrilled to have one of her beautiful daughters Lovelynx Et Seti-Ra, (Setra).  Setra has has a wonderful year of showing as a kitten, winning every Open she’s entered and a number of Best of Breed’s too. Sweet and affectionate, Setra is maturing into a gorgeous cat and has just started showing as an adult already winning a CC at her first adult show as well as Best of Breed. In fact she has now managed to have 2 red card days (that is winning every class entered), now we hope she will soon win two more CC’s to becoming a Champion like her beautiful mother Isis.

We are located in a lovely quiet part of the new Town of Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. For centuries this area was just a small country village, but is now part of a delightful and desirable estate that has retained a good deal of character, including the local duck pond and many ancient hedgerows.  We are easy to get to via the M1 or M40 from most of the rest of the Country, and the relatively straight forward and famous grid system and roundabouts that make up Milton Keynes roadways.

All our cats have the benefit of year round access to an outside run, weather permitting.  Most of them also happily take walks on the leash around the garden in the summer months, helping to keep them fit and healthy but above all safe.  Abyssinians are an active, intelligent and loving breed, though they lack an awareness of traffic, they possessing a great sense of curiosity.  This added to the fact that they are uniquely attractive and generally very friendly towards people and you’re looking for trouble if you think this cat can have free run outdoors.  This is the reason that we give preference to perspective owners who plan to keep their kitten as an indoor cat, or with access to a secure outside run.  Cats that have been house cats all their lives do not miss what they have not known, though taking the time to play with them in order to keep them fit and happy is essential!

We have excellent local veterinary services located only a few hundred yards from the house, with additional emergency and specialist coverage provided by Nixon & Marshall of Maids Morton. On top of this I’m a Member of the Institute of Animal Care Education, specialising in Felines and planning to continue my studies in Feline Behaviour, add to this the fact that I used to work for a pet food manufacturer and supplier many years ago in Canada, I take feline nutrition and well being seriously and ensure that our cats have exactly what they require to maintain peek condition.  This is of the highest importance when breeding cats as a breeding queen uses more than double the calories they would otherwise require, even more so when they are lactating.  It is essential for their own long term health and that of the kittens, to ensure they have sufficient calcium in their diet along with a number of other vitamins and trace minerals. Just like many women a breeding female can suffer from osteoporosis if this is neglected.

I first fell in love with the Abyssinian Breed over 20 yrs ago now when I met my first one while I was living and working in Toronto, Canada.  Through the years I have shared my life with a number of cats, but I kept coming back to the Abyssinian breed when thinking of adding to my feline family. As a result of this I ended up adopting Ch Myleenus Sir Lynxalot another of Gr Ch Myleenus Lordofthelynx’s offspring, when he retired from Show and Stud at an early age.  Though I’ve been lucky enough to have had cats as an important part of my life for about 30 years, it is only in the last 4-5 yrs that I have had the joy of getting to know an Abyssinian of my own.  Having always been passionate about cats and their welfare, especially since I gained many of my early cats as abuse cases needing serious rehabilitation as well as rehoming. Now it’s time to put that passion into the breeding of Pedigree Abyssinians and in assuring all our cats go to great homes. To this end we ask that all our new kitten owners sign a contract so that they clearly understand the privileges and requirements of ownership.

I often write for Papyrus the Abyssinian Cat Club’s Magazine, and product review for Your Cat on a pretty regular basis, in addition to this I write articles for the Scottish Wildcat Association’s Newsletter. I’m a Fellow of the  Zoological Society of London, again with my prime interest being that of Feline Studies.  While in time I hope to become a Feline Behaviourist, for now I’m busy enough writing, reviewing cat products and looking after my family, both human and feline...

Oh and just so you know, the name Lovelynx kind of speaks for itself, it is in part because the word “Lynx” is a part of all the names of our founding cats and that of their common Sire, due to their amazing “Lynx Tufted” ears, well that and the pure love of the breed!  Plus the “Links of Love” that have made such a difference to me and all here at Lovelynx, we additionally hope that all our wonderful kittens continue to make a positive difference to the lives of their new families. All cats bred by us will have the Lovelynx prefix as the first part of their Registered Name.
