Pregnancy Diary

June 11th 2010

Isis (Ch. Mikkar Ladylynx) is pregnant following a successful mating with Mycene Howell Dha (Harry) at Flamstone Abyssinians. Harry is related to some of the cats in Ch. Pussini Solo’s pedigree and since we had such a fantastic litter from Isis with him last year, it seems like a good idea to see if we can get a repeat performance from his relative! :) Since both Isis and Harry carry the dilute gene that produces blue when the colour gene is usual, we should have about a 50% chance of getting some Blue kittens in this litter as well as some Usuals. Harry also carries sorrel, though Isis doesn’t so some of the kittens may well carry sorrel too.

Isis (Ch. Mikkar Ladylynx) has coped fantastically well with the house move and has been utterly relaxed all the time, even when the other cats have been haring round the place getting to know all the new smalls and sights. She is now looking well rounded and we are really looking forward to seeing the kittens start to move in a few weeks time, that really is a lovely sight! :)

The cats have had a very enjoyable Fathers’ Day, with Isis (Ch. Mikkar Ladylynx) making the most out of it all and revelling in all the attention she was getting, especially in the form of titbits of barbecued steak after dinner! :) Having had lovely weather to use the cat run in has also been very popular with her. In fact she’s currently on the lower perch in the cat run, gazing at the fish pond and a few birds in the trees behind our house. This has long been her favourite spot!

Other than that Isis’ belly keeps on growing and within a few days at most we should start to see the kittens move on a regular basis. Right now she’s looking pretty even on both sides, so we’re guessing that it’ll be an even number of kittens this year! :)

Late yesterday evening Isis’ (Ch. Mikkar Ladylynx) kittens started moving, to start the movements were pretty subtle, but as Isis lay on the carpet watching some of the days Wimbledon highlights on the TV one of them became very active and we could clearly see a number of paws having a darn good fidget around - probably making room for expansion! ;) The look on Setra’s face when she first saw her mother’s belly moving was priceless... :)

Isis (Ch. Mikkar Ladylynx) has been spending plenty of time relaxing and enjoying the gorgeous weather we’ve been having of late, as have all the cats here. Isis especially like the cat run in the evening when she can watch the moths and early in the morning when all the birds are very active, though most of the rest of the day she is just happy to laze in the shade. She’s certainly been packing on weight over the last few days and her kitten bulges are growing at a rate of knots! Not long to go now before the kittens arrive and she can enjoy her favourite occupation, that of being an attentive mother to her kittens! :)

All being well Isis (Ch. Mikkar Ladylynx) should have Harry’s kittens in the next 72 hrs or so. She’s looking pretty huge, but is still very active - though her current favourite occupation is holding Setra down and cleaning her ears out. I guess it takes her mind of her ever growing belly and suites her motherly mood right now. We’re sure that Setra’s ears have never been so clean though! ;) As Isis delivery time approaches she usually becomes very, very fussy and quite clingy to us all - me in particular. Knowing this makes judging her delivery time pretty easy for us. Every cat is different though and no two pregnancies alike, so we still keep an extra close eye on her as her calculated due date approaches... :)

July 6th 2010

Isis (Ch. Mikkar Ladylynx) just gave birth to Harry’s kittens this morning, starting at 6:50 with the birth of a girl (97g, usual), followed shortly by her sister at 7:08 (96g, ususal) and ending with their brother (103g, usual) at 8:03am. Mother and kittens are all doing well, in fact the kittens are suckling so well they’re all ready packing on the weight! :)
